This Privacy Policy explains how topserver.gg handles information about visitors, registered users, and the public game servers listed in our directory. We treat data about visitors and registered users very differently from data about public game servers, and we describe each separately below.

Data About Visitors and Registered Users

When you visit topserver.gg or sign in to an account, we may collect your email address (provided through our auth provider), Steam or Discord identifiers if you sign in via OAuth, your IP address, cookies set by the site, your voting records, and basic information about how you use the site. This is the data you have a direct relationship with us about.

Account authentication is handled by Clerk, which processes your email address and OAuth identifiers on our behalf as a sub-processor.

Data About Listed Game Servers

topserver.gg also stores publicly available metadata about public game servers, including server addresses, names, descriptions, player counts, configuration, and tags. This data is collected from public game APIs (such as Steam master server lists) and by directly querying publicly advertised game servers for the metadata they broadcast.

Server operators may never have visited topserver.gg. Where European data protection law applies, our legal basis for processing this data is legitimate interest in operating a public directory of public game servers (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)), not consent. The most reliable way to remove a server from the directory is to stop publicly advertising it in its game platform.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate and improve the topserver.gg directory
  • Display server listings, rankings, and search results
  • Authenticate users and verify votes
  • Detect abuse, fraud, and vote manipulation
  • Communicate with users about their account or submitted content

Sharing Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as needed to operate the service: with our auth provider (Clerk) for sign-in, with the recipient server when you cast a vote (see the Voting section below), and where required by law or to enforce these terms.

Cookies

topserver.gg uses essential cookies (such as the Clerk session cookie used to keep you signed in) and functional cookies (such as the NEXT_LOCALE cookie used to remember your language preference). We do not currently set any analytics or advertising cookies. You can control or block cookies through your browser settings, though doing so may break parts of the site.

Your Rights

If you have an account, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to certain processing. You can exercise these rights from your account settings or by contacting us in our Discord community. These rights apply to data in the visitor and registered-user bucket; data about public game servers is governed by the re-scrape behavior described in our Terms of Service.

Data Retention

Different categories of data are retained for different lengths of time:

  • Account data is retained for the lifetime of your account and deleted when you delete your account.
  • Custom content attached to claimed or submitted listings (descriptions, banners, logos) is soft-deleted for 30 days when you remove it, then hard-deleted, so accidental deletions can be reversed within that window.
  • Factual server metadata is refreshed continuously from public sources. Historical vote and player-count data is retained for ranking and trend purposes.

International Transfers

topserver.gg operates globally and your data may be stored or processed in regions outside your own country, including the United States and the European Union. By using the service you acknowledge these transfers.

Children's Privacy

topserver.gg is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us in our Discord community so we can remove it.

Voting and Public Data

When you vote for a server, your public platform identifiers (such as your Steam ID or Discord ID) are associated with that vote and shared with the recipient server for verification and reward delivery. Because those identifiers are already public on the platforms they come from, your voting activity is treated as public information.
